Minutes to Midnight

To me the city looks like a vast composite with layers and layers of stuff. Walking past the lonely storefronts, I reach out to those playful yet kitsch advertisements. The feeling of being drowned in consumer goods sometimes makes me imagine that when the night falls and the customers left, the forgotten mannequins, the stranded posters and the busy lights might finally get to breathe some life into their own playground. Maybe it’s their city and we are the ones being consumed. This project is composed of hand-held long exposure images using the shutter drag technique, which essentially directs the form and path of light. The photographer tries to add the fluid characteristic of light into a still mundane setting, which really challenges the viewer into thinking what’s constant and what’s moving.
